The Legend of the Golden Throne
The Path of the Unknown - Book 1
Chapter 1- Cold Ambiance
It was a very cold winter in Kaldreya' Forest, the ground was covered with deep heavy snow. It was hard to walk in it, the Sharou fir trees were biased with snow making it very beautiful and surreal, many of the Pura berries disappeared from the harsh winter storms. A black shadow walks under the fir trees, carrying a few set of stolen items in it's paw. It is I, Jonad the great thief, I am a Keynari, a anthromorphic red fox. I have traveled the Kalderya' forest for many months. Looking for food and something to steal for myself and my people. I live in a very small village with my own people. Everyone in that village knows me and they care about me, because they are very poor. They will always count on me.
The families there were honorable and kind, whenever I enter their small wooden houses, they will always greet me and give me a friendly gesture. I usually enjoy talking to them. The village itself has no name, the walls are very low and weak. The houses are small has undescriptive features making it very unartistic. The mayor's house looks very middle-classed, unlike the human empire's. Our lands usually have winter. Fall and Summer, they were hard to come by after winter.
My adventures are always same, stealing from the same humans I know, including the vile goblin merchants, imperial guards, they were all the same to me. Whenever I steal, Jonad the great master thief will always be never caught. They were very easily outfoxed by me. I don't need a heavy coat to keep me warm. I already have my own fur coat, I only wear an expensive brown hooded cape and a plain black thief shirt. I also carry two Elven-forged daggers and one steel shortsword. I wear khaki semi-baggy pants and a leather belt to keep my blade sheaths, including a few bags of gold just in case.
Something happened in my village, I heard rumors if an ancient golden throne. My people said that it is very hard to find, you will need friends and highly experienced adventurers like me. I rush to the mayor's home and asked what are with these rumors, they are talking about. I bowed to my leader.
"Lord Kanid, I heard many rumors about the golden throne. What is so interesting about it?", I said in a very mannered tone. "If it has magical powers that will make all of us rich, will it make our villager safe from hostile creatures and humans?"
Mayor Kanid looked at my face and simply nodded. "Jonad, my good friend. These rumors you heard is true. It is said that the golden throne had very powerful magicka. It used to be a old king's, probably a old lost city that is very complicated to find. However, you will need to make new friends and such to start your new adventure. I don't know when you will do it. It is a quest for you to acomplish. I am not using you to get the golden throne. It is up to you. I really loathe the Arcadias Human Empire, a small keep wants to take my village! Including the people living in it. They wanted to take our village and make it their own. The humans always sent thier imperial foot soldiers to attack our village. Luckily, we manage to back them off. I want you to destroy that imperial keep, so the wretched humans won't bother us. I will you give a special pendant and a few potions for this quest. Remember, you are on your own. I am not sending any of my men to help you. Now go, seek your goals."
My adventure begins.
I accept Lord Kanid's offer, I put the special potions into my pack. I looked around to see anything that is interesting in the Mayor's house. I ignored it and walk up to the expensively carved door. I picked my belongings and was about to open the door, until Kanid called out my name. "Jonad! Wait, I forgot tell you something.", Mayor Kanid ran and stop next to me. "I have assigned you a few small things for you to do." Kanid handed out me a one rolled scroll and a small package, it reld: To- Markus Kardvis From- Lord Kanid. The package has a ancient language that's been dead for years. I can't even figure it's patterns of the weird looking words. Kanid then contiuned, "The rolled note is for Benjauro at the Pawhaven Tavern near our villager and the small package is for Markus, don't worry he is a good friend of mine. I already know that Benjauro is your best barkeep. Send the notes and the package to them, they will give you a few orders to do for them. Good luck on your jounrey, old friend. Your gonna need it."
I opened the door and put on my hooded cape and walked off. I quickly walked away from the houses and to the main gate. "Halt!", yelled out a guardsman. "Jonad, let's hope you don't get in trouble out there, Lord knows that their is a price on your hand for the Empire." I stared at his cold face and then turned around. Saying nothing to him. "Sooner or later, you will hunted down by bounty hunters and soldiers!" I ignored him and run away from my village as fast as I could.
There was a few snow covered stone paths and signs that points where are the directions to the small towns. But, instead I went to Pawhaven which is southwest of my village. As I made it too the tavern, the building was made out of Victorian designs and the sign has a pawprint on it. As I opened the entrance, I found two surprising knifes that was about stab my face! I quickly ducked, my reflexes are quick enough to catch one of the daggers in my paw. "You smelly humans sure want to kill me eh? I will give you a 50/50 chance that one of you apes will have a dagger in your throat in five seconds!", I growled. I pulled back my lips, revealing sharp white teeth as a warning.
"Ahh, shod up ya Keynari, I be willing to kill ya. You are wanted by the Empire and your price is very good winnar. 100,000 septems is a fine price.", intejected the balded human with a root boor mustace on his face. He stratched his beard and threw his glass mug between my leg paws as I walked near the Bar. "Damnable drunkards!", I thought. A tall siberian tiger wearing a expensive well-made shirt is wiping a dirty mug with his cloth.
"Eh!? Isn't you Jonad, the master thief? Ah, you smart cunning fox, where have you been old friend." Ben hugged and patted my pack. He then went back to the bar. Benjuaro is my most trusted barkeep and best friend. He has a lot of great stories and rumors to tell to people. I smelled the air in the tavern, it smelled like sweaty drunken humans, wet dirty alcohol tables, a smell of dried up food on the floor, it made me wanted to puke. "So, how is it going?", Ben asked. I handed out the rolled up note to Ben. He quickly snatched it out of my paw and begin to unroll the scroll note. Ben carefully read the note and smiled. "So Lord Kanid wants me to tell you about the ancient throne, eh?" I looked up and met his golden eyes. His other eye has a long scar, it was gray. Many customers called him one-eyed tiger as his nickname, but I still called him Ben.
I put my arms together and nodded my head as a yes. "Of course, my adventures are getting a wee-bit boring. I wanted challenge, so I can make new friends to help me on my new adventure."
Ben rolled back the scroll and put in his pocket. "Well, I have a favor for you. Do you see that bearded human sitting near the door, when you entered?", said Ben in a harsh tone. "That human is a ass, he has been drawing out my customers with his damned men!" I want you to either take him out my tavern or either kill him outside. You will do that for me?" I looked at the drunkards. I sharpened my claws on the bar stool. I carefully bring out my shortsword from my sheath and walk quietly next to the sleeping drunken humans.
I tapped the bearded human with my shortsword. He opened his eyes, then closed it. I cretched my teeth and tap on his shoulder once more. He jumped up from his chair and shaked his fist at me. "You! I'll chop your head off and make a trophy out of it!", yelled the bearded man. I hopped back and growled at them. "Get the Keynari!", said one of his men. I ran and stand up on the tables. A few fellow anthro animals behind me started watching the bar fight, there faces interested. One of his men then drawed out his long iron claymore.
I jumped up in the air and kicked his face with my sharp paws. He wiped his mouth, the blond-haired man swing his claymore at me. I doubled back and stab his arm. He shouted in pain and ran outside. "What a wimp.", I thought eagerly. One of the bearded man's henchmen brought out dwarven forged pistols. "HEY! No fucking guns allowed in my tavern!", Ben pointed at the humans with his clawed finger. I smiled with quick reflexes, I threw a dagger at the henchman's head. It went clear through his forehead and it was bleeding blood. He fell down in a stiffed way. "You will pay for this, thief!"
The bearded man pulled his trigger at me and begin to shoot out three shots. I attempted to dogde and hide behind the chairs. One of the shots hit the people behind me. I jumped like a cat and pounce the human with my claws. I squeeze his neck and punched his face several times. The bearded man grabbed my paws, he tries to bring my paws to my head. I released him, he kicked away from me. He tries to get his pistol back. I ran to it and kicked it away. I then grab out my dagger and threw it at the bearded man's leg. It got his leg and he fell down to the wooden floor. I jumped to his body and stratched his eyes. He pressed my claws against his eyes, until he stopped moving. I waited, waited, and waited.
The bearded man stopped moving. I let go and his eyes were covered in black blood, they were pressed very deep.
I sighed, I moved away from his smelly dead body. I grabbed the two daggers from the dead humans. I cleaned the daggers and put it back in to my hidden pockets. "I need to go now.", I whispered in a very hoarsed voice. Ben was about to ask me something, but I opened the door and left. I couldn't take the horrible smell in the bar. "Jonad, thanks for your help. I really appricated it." Ben followed me. "You better be going now." I nodded and put my paws in my pockets as I walked away. "I have never killed anyone before in my life! I only beat them up and hurt them. I am not a brute, I was simply defending myself. I know they were trying to kill me. But...", I thought. I looked at my bloodied paws and sighed. Now I know, I am not afraid of killing people, especially evil beasts. But it was the the right thing to do for my friend.
Benjuaro forgot to say something important to me again. He rushed out from his tavern and followed me. "Jonad, wait! I forgot to tell you something.", said Ben in a tired voice. "About the Golden Throne, since you helped me to get rid of those humans in my tavern, I will be happy to explain it. He brought out something that is shiny from his pocket and hand it to me, he closed my paw fists. "The golden coin that I give you is my lucky coin, keep it. It will bring you good luck and fortune. The Golden Throne is mistakably far away from our home country. It is up in the high mountains in a large ruined city. Guarded by undead and bandits. You will need friends with special abilites and magic. Your quest is not easy, it will be complex. Just remember, don't trust people that you don't know, even if it is a beautiful woman. Because they will play tricks, you will be probably be in a hangover. He stared at my face and whispered. "The Golden Throne is cursed, don't touch it or sit on it. Believe me, it is evil. I don't know why so many of my customers talk about it, that it will give magical powers that is god-like. I don't believe them, the throne used to be a evil demon king's.
His face was serious, I smilied and begin to start my other objective. "Thank you for that information, I will be going now.", I said. I walked away and follow the path to Briganwood city, where Markus lives. Benjuaro, the one-eyed tiger went back to him tavern without looking back at me as he left. I have to cautious, since I will meet up some untrustworthy rogues and brigands along this path.
